Wave Crest Compliments
Following on from reported successes in my last News Blog I am delighted to say it has all continued with many compliments on my poetry work and books, including some from unexpected people and directions. Long may it all continue as I press on with my Poetry World that has seen my total raised for the excellent Help for Heroes pass £11,000.
To that end I post the first poem “I Am Spartacus” that emerged in my 8th of fifteen now published books…
I Am Spartacus
Yes I am Spartacus I cried out
Like in the film of the same name,
About Spartacus who led a slave revolt
The Roman empire struggled to tame.
But after defeating by superior numbers
The Romans wanted the man behind it all,
So threatened to torture all who’d revolted
Until Spartacus and slaves stood up to call,
That they were all the notorious leader
So desperately sought by the empire elite,
Who were petrified others would now rise up
Against a hated regime they wanted to defeat.
Thus now that bold and famous shout
Owning up to being the man that meant,
So much as a brave and resisting hero
Is today a statement of determined intent.
For by shouting his name out proudly
It showed a courageous and a fighting side,
So I respect and salute the likes of him
And also tried to show an honest pride,
In everything that I have said and done
When battling along my paths in life.
And not flinching from any twisted truth
Of false words cutting like a knife.
Because I still believe in myself and manage
To hold my conscience and integrity true,
In the face of some cruel envy and lies
Slanderously said about some things I do.
For there is always someone struggling
With their jealousy and a bitterness,
So they can never be at a hearts rest
While you succeed and they’re a mess.
So I will gladly shout out I am Spartacus
And own up to who I am and stand for,
Though others may not sit well with this
But as an honest man I can do no more.

Well that poem has some declarations in it, but maybe not too far away from the heroics of that brave man in history.
On a less dramatic front, but we still need certain courage and beliefs to succeed, so on a more personal note for me comes “Alone in the Mirror” from my 6th book, so about 2018.
Alone in the Mirror
I am alone in the mirror
With this face I’ve come to know,
That’s been staring back at me
From so many years ago.
But that face has changed now
Though the expression is the same,
For it has seen much of life
And situations you can’t tame.
This face has looked on loss
So tragic it creased with pain,
While trying hard to smile out
As inside the heart was slain.
Inner traumas rocked the soul
Which nearly split the seam.
Causing untold agony but,
Outside the face would beam.
So laughter which we cherish
Has cracked the outer look,
Though these smile fed lines
Can belie the times it shook,
With mirth, and sometimes grief
As it was worn across the years,
That eroded pristine youth
With many of life’s fears.
So that cruel mirror on my wall
Reflects the good and bad,
Showing with lines and wrinkles
All the years of life I’ve had.
But I’m not ashamed of this
Please don’t be taken in.
For though sometimes I force it,
Years drop off when I grin.

That poem probably gives another glance or insight into an inner me, and possibly answers some of the many questions I get asked frequently, but hey you decide please.
Another sprinkle of the requests and interests I am getting includes contact with a support group for carers, a bereavement group, residential homes, more wedding poems and various other groups.
JOKE TIME: –
A rabbit was full of romance for another as love was in the hare.
Are 2 bananas a pair of slippers?
A German hit in the face got a heir lip
I saw 2 blackbirds stuck together before realising they were velcrows
Hopefully some smiles there, but to continue here is a poem I promised about those enigmatic bears Ted & Beth from their very own book “Tea For Two: Poetic Antics of Ted & Beth”
Ted n Beth’s Bedtime
Ted and Beth can be quite mature
But act a bit like children too,
And don’t like doing as they’re told
Or sometimes what they have to do,
Now normally this is no great pain
Mostly obeying what I have said,
But one main exception to this
Is when they’re told to go to bed.
For they really do not like this
And would stay up all night long,
But certainly would not be quiet
Laughing loudly or singing a song.
So it becomes a very tricky battle
Getting them to settle down to sleep,
Also hard making them stay in bed
For often they will craftily creep
Out of their room to wander around,
Looking for mischief or tricks to play.
Thus it’s a bit of a job to control them
Whatever I try to do or say.
And if I get them both to stay put
I’m not sure it will still be alright.
Because I’ve caught them out before
Having a massive pillow fight,
Chasing each other round laughing
Too excited and beyond their tethers,
For when I had to go and check
The whole room was full of feathers.
So now that is just one problem
Trying to get them to bed on time,
Because if they are up all night
Next day their mood isn’t sublime.
Thus on and on goes the struggle
As I have to look after the bears,
But however cross and angry I get
They know their poet dad still cares.

I should add that whilst I continue with all the many involvements of my Poetry Wrld, I have already made a start on Book 16, with more new poems, but there is no rush to complete, but Yay, it is on its way!
All the many people who support and encourage me know of my gratitude so just get a general but heartfelt thank you here, as do all my kind and supportive readers with a diversity of fellow Bingo callers, lunch group friends, Spanish dancers, phone friends, waitresses, Julian and lol Chefs etc. and etcetera, etceters..
Last poem and a strong Luuuuuuuuurrrvve one =
Touch
Apparent in a wonderful vision
This sight for sore eyes to see,
A woman with alluring looks
Who seems very attractive to me.
Of course nature plays her tricks
Upon the poor male species of life,
Which causes many an intrigue
And more than a little strife.
For the lovely sirens in our view
Cause bubbling emotions in man,
That instil a profound sense of need
To kiss and cuddle them if he can.
Now with a gentle caress or touch
Emotive sensations come alive,
To those soft pressures and strokes
On which our bodies thrive.
So don’t be shy of natures lead
Into temptation with a natural wish.
When signs and permission glow,
Brush her skin with a subtle kiss!
Then if this is received with pleasure
And perhaps an encouraging gasp,
Do not delay or be bashful
Or magic may slip from your grasp.
So continue with sensual movements
With words of complimentary love,
To ensure that you and your lady
Will soar to the heavens above.

As usual I end with many thanks to you all as The Journey Continues with WAVE CREST COMPLIMENTS…
Cheers, love and light,
Laurie xx
